Solving the Biggest Bottleneck on Organic Audience Growth!

The Million-Dollar Idea of AI for Content Repurposing

Solving the Biggest Bottleneck on Organic Audience Growth!

Well, folks, it does not get any more straightforward than this.

I spoke to 25 potential customers to validate the idea and now I am giving it away.

Why you ask?

I want to have time for my family and have a job that I actually love. So, I won’t have time to run with it myself.

But, I would love to see someone else succeed with it!

Now, we will dive into what the product is, the problem it solves, and how to bring it to market.

Let’s get started with an elevator pitch!

Elevator Pitch:

  • AI tool that helps email creators supercharge their organic growth by automating the repurposing of content.

  • The tool integrates with email platforms such as Substack or Beehiiv. It pulls the text and rewrites it into tweets, threads, and social posts.

  • Uploading text, written by the author, teaches the model to write in her voice.

  • A convenient text editor allows the user to refine the posts further.

  • Automated posting across all social accounts avoids manual work and broadens the reach to bigger audiences.

You might be asking: Is this a problem someone would pay for?

The Problem:

  • 50% of content creators spend 4-6 hours a week repurposing their content across social channels

  • Specifically, writers of long-form articles have this problem. Their content does not lend itself to short posts as well as that of people publishing more list-type content.

  • Majority of content creators already use GenAI to rewrite their content but the workflow sucks. They create drafts with GPT, copy them over to Notion, edit them, and then copy them into e.g. LinkedIn

  • A lack of time limits most creators to posting on one platform which in turn limits growth.

Read on to see why now is the right time to start this.

Why now:

  • Since 2020, referral traffic from sites like Facebook and X has dropped 80% and 60%, respectively.

  • Why are referrals dropping? Social platforms are suppressing posts that include links to keep users from leaving the platform.

  • Facebook posts, with links in them, saw a 50% drop in views over the past two years.

  • More than ever, companies and creators are looking for ways to own their audiences and not remain at the mercy of the big platforms. Often their answer is email.

  • These macro trends and flabbergasting acquisitions of email newsletters such as TheHustle (~$27M) and MorningBrew ($75M) have created a frenzy in the newsletter industry

You know what they say… during a gold rush, sell shovels.

So, how could this be brought to market?

Go To Market:

  • The target customers are newsletter companies and creators.

  • I would try to create bottom-of-funnel content on content repurposing and growing newsletters in general.

  • Your target customer likely also pays attention to the newsletter industry as a whole and might follow meta creators such as Jay Clouse from creatorscience.com

  • You could reach out and see if you can partner with someone like Jay Clouse.

  • In parallel, build an MVP on top of some LLM API

  • For the MVP, I would only build:

    • Integration with one popular newsletter platform such as beehiiv. (Try to get them to endorse you to get access to their customer base, otherwise try Substack)

    • A file upload so the tool can learn to write in the user’s voice

    • Slick editor interface for the user to refine the AI-generated drafts (This part is crucial. It should look and feel great)

    • I would worry about the content scheduling and posting from inside the platform later. You can add these features later, once you get the first customers.

You can use the tool internally to fuel your content creation. The dogfooding will help you make product decisions.

Business Model:

  • Charge a subscription of €20 a month or €200 annually

  • It should be possible to build up an audience of 10-20K (email) creators and convert ~5%

  • This would result in an ARR of ~150K

  • With a multiple of 5-10x, the business would be worth around €1 million

Competitors:

There are a few competitors but that only validates demand and none of them specifically targets newsletters.

What Other Features Customers Said They’d Like:

  • Feedback on writing and suggestions on how to improve e.g. how to add humor or be more persuasive

  • Longer pieces can be broken up into multiple posts. Two people said they’d like suggestions on which pieces to create posts from and be able to pick them.

  • Providing strategic insights, such as the five headlines most engaging headlines, would be super useful. Just analytics on post-performance alone are not seen as very valuable because social platforms already provide them.

I sincerely hope you find this useful!
